Personal Note: I have to tell you I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with animals. They constantly amaze me, teach me and inspire me. They have been given a strong intuition and sense of knowing what they need. It is fascinating to watch the positive changes that take place in an animals life when they are allowed a choice in their health. I have watched this girl go from extreme fear aggressive to learning to trust. When I first started working with her she would have nothing to do with essential oils. After our third session (she chose her oil) she now is curious to see and smell the bottles, almost a knowing they are for her. She looks at me with such love, gratitude and trust, and that is so heartwarming. She sits patiently waiting for the bottles to be opened now. There is a beautiful soul beneath the fear and it is slowly appearing. I am blessed and thankful everyday for the gift of Animal Aromatherapy and the improvement it makes in the lives of animals.

Week 3: Introducing Essential oils for the dog to select: Based on the assessment and history of the dog I selected 5 single essential oils to introduce. These oils were put on the floor 2" apart with lids on. Patience is the key here as the animal watches and takes in the process. After several minutes she began smelling the bottles, some she passed over completely. Out of the 5 single oils in front of her she strongly gravitated to the single oil of Angelica Root. I wanted to make sure this was her primary choice so I removed the cap and placed it about 1/4" down between 2 fingers. I then held the cap out allowing her to move into my hand. She moved closer and inhaled the oil for roughly 1-2 minutes, licked her lips and walked away. Later that afternoon I wanted to see if she still needed the Angelica so I repeated the process with the 5 singles. Again she went only for the Angelica Root and again I allowed her to inhale the oil. She continued to gravitate to the Angelica for 3 days, on the 4th day she showed no interest in the oil. Now that training has begun to help her overcome some of her fear issues, we will select 4-5 single essential oils and repeat the process above in week 4.

Angelica Root: It is fascinating to see an animal tell you which essential oils, herbs, flower essences or hydrosols it needs. From the benefits below we can see why this pup chose Angelica Root. They have amazing intuition if we will only learn to listen.
Angelica Root helps with:
Behavioral Issues:
Fear from early life trauma - birth on
nerves from hysteria -helps strengthen
chronic anxiety
irrational fears
digestive disorders from stress
liver dysfunction (anger is held in the liver)

Week 4: I introduced 5 new oils, sitting each on the floor roughly 2" apart. Two oils were chosen by this beautiful soul. She has really warmed up to essential oils. She takes her time and smells each bottle. During the week and before her next lesson with the trainer, she was allowed to enjoy the oils she indicated. I am so impressed with the ability of this animal and the outcome thus far. As she was lead around people she was actually wagging her tail. This was not possible 3 weeks ago, she was so fearful of everyone and everything and would show extreme fear aggression/possessiveness growling at strangers. During her training session the trainer was actually able to offer her treats which she took with tail wagging. The trainer was very pleased with the training session and surprised at how in a short period of time, her attitude had improved. We both believe that there is a gentle soul beneath the defensive attitude, and it is only a matter of time before we see this girl turn around. She still has an issues with other dogs, but we will continue to introduce oils as she needs them. Currently she is still enjoying the oils introduced the beginning of the week.

Canine Case study --
Week 1 - excessive fear leading to aggression
The dog was not socialized when young making her fearful of almost everything including people and other animals. She was rejected by her mother at the age of 4 1/2 weeks old, that is when the owners took her in. She has been with the owners since that time with very little contact with other humans or animals, with the exception of the smaller dogs the owners already had in the home. Owners had company for a week which was the first time the dog was exposed to people and their dog in the home. This caused the dog to become excessively tense, nervous and fearful causing her to lash out at the owners other dog she had been raised with. Her routine was thrown off, she was on constant alert and stopped eating due to tension. Once the company left it was hard for the animal to calm herself and return to a normal state and routine. This is the protocol we are using and will continue to use when the dog starts training. The dog will go into training later this week and we will update the outcome next week.

Changed food to a higher quality grain free - will be adding in supplements to help strengthen the nervous system.
First Day: started using immediately Rescue Remedy for pets rubbing it on the gums and adding several drops to her water.
We noted within a about 30 minutes the dog began to relax, breathing slower
We applied the RR several times throughout the day
We did not introduce essential oils at this time. It is best that the animal is relaxed enough to smell the essential oils, this allows you and the animal a clear picture of the oils that the animal needs. When they are in a high stressed state they are unable to focus properly. Essential oils will be introduced within the next week.

Week 2:  A 2 oz spray was made using distilled water, neroli hydrosol, Rescue Remedy, Beech Remedy and Holly Remedy and Aspen Remedy. We would mist the chest of the dog several times throughout the day. This will be used prior to training classes as well as during classes. We noticed by the end of the 3rd day the dog was notably calmer, acting more like herself before the stressful situation from the previous week. We will begin introducing essential oils in week 3 to see which oils the dog responds to in a positive manner. From the selection we will make a blend to add either to a spray or a carrier. She immediately becomes defensive, anxious, stressed and on alert when around other people or animals.

Neroli Hydrosol: helps with high anxiety, nerves, stressed state or upset
Holly: Jealousy, negative towards people and animals, growling, hissing, snapping, unprovoked attacks
Beech: Intolerance of people, situations, animals
Aspen: Fear of unknown, agitation, heavy panting and reactive
